Symposium 2017

Innovating work-based Learning in Scotland:

Thriving in the workplace of the future

During November 2017, the Centre for Work-based Learning in Scotland will host an international symposium in Glasgow which will bring over 100 national and international thought leaders, directors and senior managers, including representation from the Scottish Apprenticeship Advisory Board, together with influencers from the education and policy landscape to:

  • consider the future of work and what that means for employees and businesses
  • explore the role of high performing work practices in enabling skills use in the workplace
  • discuss and debate how Scotland's skills system needs to respond
  • network and share on a national and international scale

The international symposium series is an annual event, now in its 4th year, that was created by Skills Development Scotland (SDS) and is one of the ways in which we have been influencing thinking in Scotland around work-based learning.

This year’s symposium has been designed to support and advance the work being undertaken within Skills Development Scotland in the area of future skills and the future of work. The programme will feature presentations, discussion and debate with particular emphasis on high performing individuals and workplaces and a future-focused skills system. The event will cover the following:

Scotland at a crossroads: the path to prosperity

  • The future of work is human
  • Learning a living: a flourishing workforce
  • A future focused skills system: a blueprint for change

The 'New Collar' jobs of the future

  • Re-inventing organisations
  • High performing workplaces
  • Panel discussion, interactive workshops and networking

The event is now fully booked but you can watch the livestream online.
